The annual gingerbread house event

Oh yes, our annual gingerbread house making hoedown happens the day after Thanksgiving in the Lee household. This year we purchased two kits - one for each child - to preserve world peace, and also to allow creative license. Can you tell which reason was more pressing?

Once Mom and Dad relaxed about the potential messes and stopped fussing with paper towels and wet wipes, you could actually hear a pin drop for over an hour. An HOUR!

Abigail did surprisingly well with all the candy - only five pieces went in her mouth, and the decapitated gingerbread boy was fixed with icing:

Love how she tucks her legs under herself.

Amanda went to town on this, as she is now the third-year veteran gingerbread house maker:

Is that an anatomically correct gingerbread boy, or his collar? Hmm.

Keepin' it real - behold, the kitchen:

All in all, a fun tradition for the kids!

How fun! Maybe I should go out and get a few of those gingerbread houses and save them for a day over winter break.

The girls have done a fantastic job on their houses. They are so neat and tidy, I wonder if it is a boy thing (or Fletcher thing) to put as much on the house as possible lol.

Fabulous! I'm glad you parents relaxed and let them go to town. They will have wonderful memories as a result.

And my heart melted at though tucked tootsies. Fantastic photo there!

In my opinion, they were pretty darn neat (not messy) and the houses are perfection!

You've reminded me that I need to pull ours out of the freezer. I buy them on clearance at the end of the season.

And your photos are just gorgeous!!! So colorful and bright! A work of art!

That's REALLY good for a 2 1/2 year old. I probably would've ate half of the house by the time I was finished.

Wow, I'm glad to see that you have the same gingerbread house tradition that we have. Joey and Amanda have snuck so many pieces of candy and gingerbread that the house finally collapsed last week. But they enjoyed every bit of them.

With another baby on the way you've got at least 15-20 more years before the kids are going to tire of this family tradition...

They are absolutely gorgeous. So far I've only attempted cookies with my 2 little ones, but I'm looking forward to them trying out their first gingerbread house at the end of the year.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your family. Happy New Year to you.

Those are amazingly well done! I have a confession, we've never done one, I'm too afraid of that creative process. I think I should definitely suck it up and let them go to town next year!
